Musky Techniques

St.CroixROD.png

When musky fishing, it is important to me to practice proper catch and release for maintaining a trophy fishery. I support CPR 100% (Catch, Photo, Release) and will practice it on all the musky we catch. My boat is equipped with a 60” rear live well and proper musky handling tools, over sized coated musky net, musky bump board and hook cutters.

Casting.

Musky fishing requires a powerful set up. We will be casting- 8-9’ rods with 300-400 size reels and 80-100lb braided line. Leaders will vary with each lure and technique. We will be using various styles and sizes of baits. Early in the season small and finesse is key but during the late summer/fall they’re looking for big meals.

Trolling.

Trolling on the Kawartha Lakes can be an effective way to cover water for both Musky and Walleye. Mid summer fast speeds on weed lines or slow in the fall on drop offs and inflows. Anywhere from Bucktails to Bulldawgs, depending on what the fish tell us.
